It was built around 2600 BCE, and was abandoned around 1700 BCE, probably due to a change of course of the river which supported the civilization. It was rediscovered in the 1920s by archaeologists. The site has been jeopardised by rising groundwater from the nearby Indus River. | Click here for more information | | Taxila: | | | Taxila (originally called and still referred by Hindus and Buddhists as taksh-shila) was a Hindu and Buddhist seat of learning in the Ancient Indian region of Gandhara, connected across the Khunjerab pass to the Silk Road, attracting students from all over the world.
